Dustin Rhodes Opens Up About Beef With Jeff Jarrett Over Jacking His Nickname

Publish date: 2024-06-16

Dustin Rhodes has been in the wrestling industry for decades and has used the nickname, The Last Outlaw, to symbolize that he is the last of his type at this stage in his long illustrious career. Rhodes is now claiming that he has beef with Jeff Jarrett since he apparently stole his nickname and called himself The Last Outlaw.

Jarrett has been in the wrestling business since 1986. He, like Rhodes, has worked for a number of prominent promotions, including WCW, WWE, TNA, and AEW. Jarrett debuted on AEW on November 2nd with an attack on Darby Allin. The WWE Hall of Famer refers to himself as The Last Outlaw, so AEW now has two veterans who use the same nickname.

Rhodes recently appeared on Sports Guys Talking Wrestling podcast, where he stated that he had some issues with Double J for using the name, since that was actually his own nickname from way back. He explained how he saw the nickname as a badge of honor, yet despite becoming upset, he still admires Jarrett.

“Jeff Jarrett came aboard, and he calls himself ‘The Last Outlaw’ and I kind of have beef with him because of that. I consider myself, since I’m still working and still working at a high capacity, the last outlaw, the last of my kind from back in the day. It’s like a badge of honor to me, he called himself that, and I kind of got pissed. I love Jeff.”

After Jeff Jarrett’s AEW debut, Tony Khan revealed that the Hall of Famer will also serve as the AEW’s Director of Business Development. When questioned about the position, Rhodes noted his broad experience in a variety of business areas, including worldwide distribution and live events. The former Goldust said he believed Jarrett would have a significant influence right away. Rhodes added that he thinks it’s a wonderful time to be an AEW member.

“Jeff has an extensive background for stuff like this, for the live events, for international distribution, things like that. He’s been behind the camera, in the truck, as a director and running the shows with TNA back in the day. Now he comes aboard to help us out with the live events and in the buildings, I think it’s going to be great and he’s going to make an immediate impact.

AEW, we’re going on four years, and we’re growing. We’ve had a lot of stumbles along the way, but we’re getting better and better. Right now, it’s such a great time to be part of the company and something that started from the ground up, and look where it’s at right now. I love watching it when I’m home and there.

Coaching these kids and watching them grow from day one, it’s incredible. These kids have come together and are working like a team. It feels like that team atmosphere. Somebody complains, every company has that, but for the most part, we are all together and working hard for the same goal, which is to be the best wrestling company on the planet. That’s a tall order, but we’re giving it our best shot.”

The broadcast team made the announcement that Jarrett and Lethal will compete against Allin and Sting at AEW Full Gear during the November 9 episode of AEW Dynamite. Stay tuned to Ringside News to get the latest updates.
